Adaptation

Petersfield to pilot the new Greening Campaign toolkit

Greening Petersfield and Petersfield Tomorrow have now joined together to pilot a new phase in the Greening Campaign - the 'Adaptation Toolkit'  which will then be rolled out across England after its launch in London on 20th July this year.

Adaptation is where we risk assess our community and look at how climate change will create difficulties and also business opportunities for our futures.  Both national and local government are already looking at the situation but they do not have the local understanding that people living in local communities hold.  Terena Plowright, Director of The national Greening Campaign said 'Local knowledge is going to prove essential if we are really going to get to grips with this and it is fantastic that Petersfield is going to lead the way.  Hampshire County Council and EHDC are both working on this subject and we can feed our knowledge to them to support some of their investigations'.

The toolkit links to national organisations so we can understand the impacts that a different climate will bring such as on forestry, farming, and wildlife and a National Conference will take place in London where the major organisations will be represented.

A meeting will be held to launch the Petersfield toolkit consultation on 18th May from  7pm in the EHDC Council Chamber at Penns Place,  'We need everyone with a special interest to attend this meeting' said Bob Ayer Chairman of Petersfield Tomorrow 'this is about people getting involved in the future of this special town'.

Groups will be formed to investigate: wildlife, water, food, forestry, finance, energy, resources, buildings, infrastructure, etc and people with an interest in these subjects are invited to come to the meeting and find out more.
